On a night when the best campaigns from Canada’s advertising and communications community took centre stage, the industry paused to pay tribute to a woman whose efforts have helped cultivate consumer trust in advertising.
Linda Nagel, outgoing President and CEO of Advertising Standards Canada, received the 2016 ACA Gold Medal June 2 at Marketing Magazine’s Marketing Awards gala at The Carlu.
ACA President and CEO Ron Lund, who presented Nagel the medal and a certificate, spoke to the important role Nagel had played in establishing a strong self-regulatory system.
“Thanks to Linda’s efforts, ASC is trusted by the industry, government and, most importantly, consumers,” Lund said. “Canada has a self-regulatory regime that is heralded around the world.”
Others praised Nagel with a congratulatory video played during the gala.
Nagel briefly addressed the gathering of mostly creative agencies, thanking them for their continued support of ASC.
The ACA Gold Medal, first awarded in 1941, was the first prize handed out on a night when 20 medals were presented to the agencies with the best work over the past year.
Rethink was the most awarded creative shop at the show, receiving five Gold M trophies, in addition to seven silver and 10 bronze.
